Veoh is an Internet television company.
Veoh gives its users access to top studio content, independent productions, and user-generated content.
To start streaming content on Veoh, you need to create an account with the site. Upon sign-up, users get access to millions of online videos, including free TV shows, indie vids, and movies, among others. Users can also upload and share their videos with the world via the site.
Veoh provides a software application, VeohTV Beta, that can be used to give "lean back" and remote controllable viewing of web content.
Veoh uses peer-to-peer technology in the player application, which can be utilized to enable the distribution of longer-form video files at a much lower cost.
In September 2005, Veoh was founded by Dmitry Shapiro.
In March 2006, Veoh debuted its full beta service.
In February 2007, Veoh officially launched.
In 2008, the website veoh.com attracted approximately 17 million unique visitors monthly.
In May 2008, Veoh made its service unavailable to most markets including, Africa, Asia, Central, and South America, Central, and Eastern Europe.
In January 2009, Veoh new site started supporting iPhone/iPod Touch and the Veoh Video Compass.
In April 2009, Veoh reduced its staff by 25 more to 45.
On February 11, 2010, Veoh laid off most of its remaining staff and was filing for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.
