iReport was CNN 's citizen journalism initiative of newsgathering and storytelling that gave people across the world a platform to share images and videos of breaking news stories.
iReport, just like wikinews allow and encourage ordinary citizens to share news related stories of any kind in form of photos and videos.
iReporters allowed citizens across the globe to take and share pictures and videos they believe are news stories. iReporters helped CNN cover some of the biggest news events. Examples include Superstorm Sandy, devastating wildfires in Colorado and the Israel-Gaza conflict in 2012.
Lila King and a tiny-but-mighty team of true believers launched iReport together in 2006.
On August 2, 2006 iReport webpage started inviting news of all stripes to be sent to CNN.
In April 2008, iReport.com, a full-on website with new suite of community tools and instant publishing for users was launched.
By January 2010, iReport had well established itself as a powerful center for newsgathering and storytelling and helped in reporting on major stories like 2008 U.S. presidential elections, election protests in Iran in 2009, and massive earthquake in Haiti January 2010.
In 2015, CNN conducted an overhaul of iReport.
