Identi.ca is an open source social networking and microblogging service that uses the pump.io software and the Activity Streams protocol. Identi.ca allows users to post and comment on various types of content, such as text, images, videos, and links. Identi.ca was launched in2008 by Evan Prodromou.
identi.ca is based on the pump.io software, that uses the Activity Streams protocol and does most of what people want from a social network. The website allows unlimited length status updates, rich text, and images.
Identi.ca stopped accepting new registrations in 2013. However, it continues to operate alongside several other pump.io-based hosts. Pump.io is a decentralized social network with servers where users can pick where to sign up for an account, and communicate with Pump users from any other public Pump.io server. Identi.ca is a free and open-source microblogging service. It is based on the Activity Streams protocol, which allows users to share their activities with other users on different microblogging platforms. Identi.ca users can post text, links, images, and videos. They can also follow other users and comment on their posts. Identi.ca is a decentralized service. This means that there is no central server that stores all of the user data. Instead, the data is stored on individual servers that are run by different users.
By use of Identi.ca site users get unlimited length status updates, rich text, and images. As well, the Activity Streams protocol provides many kinds of activities such as games.
