Trump Style of Language and How it Changed Circumstantially Influenced His Twitter Popularity

The authors of this article conducted a study to understand Donald Trump’s Tweeting style and how it has influenced his twitter popularity. The researcher start by acknowledging the role of twitter in Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaigns which eventually led to victory. Therefore, Clarke and Grieve (2019) narrowed down to Trump’s style of language and how it changed over time remaining one of the unique Twitter personality. The authors used multivariate analysis of the tweets between 2009 and 2018. The timeframe start at the point when Trump joined twitter up to the time when this study was conducted. The authors presented findings in four general patterns of stylistic variation which represented the degree of conversational, campaigning, engaged and advisory discourse. An emphasis was put on how the four components changed over time especially during the campaign period. Common trends included highlighting the systematic shift in the tweeting style depending on the goals of communication from Trump and his advisors. It is generally concluded that these findings can be significant in developing social media strategy and defining an outstanding online persona.
