Just recently, the Republicans appointed New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, a Trump loyalist, to assume the vacant third-ranking post in the House of Representatives after Liz Cheney’s oust. The vote that was done on the 14th May, had her garner 134 votes against her opponent Congressman Chip Roy. The author says that Ms. Stefanik’s win was expected as she has recently been very vocal in backing Mr. Trump. Her win is also a confirmation that Trump still has a strong grip on the Republican Party six months after he lost presidency. Ms. Stefanik wrote on Twitter "I am excited to lead our unified team” and added that she will combat Biden and Pelosi's Far-Left agenda! She will now work on overseeing day-to-day Republican conference operations during their meetings to determine the lawmaker’s assignments and produce fact-sheets and materials to ensure the party remains unified. In response to her win Mr. Trump stated that it was an "overwhelming victory" and said the "Make America Great Again movement is strong." Republican House Leader Kevin McCarthy stated that "We had a healthy debate and a good election. We've got a lot of work to do in this leadership team, in this conference."
